Relations in Object-Oriented Analysis

In an object-oriented environment the relations are used to present a semantic connection among model elements. However, literature regarding the subject of object orientation presents these relations differently and therefore, in different tools it is realized in different ways. In this article we investigate the relations among the classes taking into consideration the dynamic behavior of objects. Examples of an object-oriented modeling of the FFB (Radio-based Train Operation System) are the basis of our investigation. This paper concentrates on the relations association, composition and aggregation and on their relevance in object-oriented analysis with the notation of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Situations will be explained in which these relations can be used. The role of these relations concerning the dynamic behavior of objects is discussed and based on these results the characteristics of each relation is stated. We here tried to make clear the relationship between the class diagram and the state charts in our modeling. The examples of the object-oriented modeling of the FFB are presented in the notations of the UML.
